Allergy Triggers

The allergic symptoms are caused by allergens, which are usually proteins contained in environmental components such as pollen, house dust mite feces, animal dender or food components. More recently additional plants such as ambrosia is entering the north European habitat due to climate changes.

These proteins (allergens) are normally tolerated and even in allergic patients the tolerance is usually only defective in one or a few allergens, while others are normally tolerated. Together with a genetic predisposition and environmental factors such as lifestyle, nutrition, pollution and certain infections break the natural allergen tolerance and releases an unwanted immune response.
